Six years after the original preservation post — and over 40 years after its publication by Atari Germany in 1983 — the ATAMON page has received a major update!
When ATAMON (DXG 5724 – Atari Germany) was first published here in 2020, no documentation existed anywhere — no manual, no reference, nothing. The utility was largely unknown even within the Atari community.
That gap is now filled :
- A complete analysis of the binary has been carried out — a full 6502 disassembly — allowing a detailed reference manual and the commented source code to be written from scratch. Every command is documented with its exact syntax, behavior, and verified examples. The manual is available in French, English, and German.
- Along the way, a long-standing bug was identified in the C command, broken since the original 1983 release. Its cause has been pinpointed in the code, and a patch is now included — a patched .ATR image is available alongside the original.
- Finally, since no box or packaging of any kind has ever been found for Atamon, a cover has been created from scratch as an original design.
ATAMON remains one of the most obscure titles published by Atari Germany. Hopefully it’s a little less mysterious now 😎
